Sun & Sand Sports

In 2017, Sun & Sand Sports — a leading sports clothing brand in Dubai — asked Aduro to build the platform behind a new mobile shopping app and a set of internal tools to run their digital retail operation. Aduro led the data and software architecture — making the executive decisions on how product information, pricing and merchandising workflows should be structured before a line of application code was written.
We joined Sun & Sand Sports's agile programme to deliver the services the app would depend on, working alongside their project managers, designers, and iOS and Android development teams. With the architectural foundations in place, the first version shipped to the iOS App Store and Google Play within 12 weeks.

A mobile experience built for real shoppers
The app needed to feel fast and reliable for customers browsing products, checking prices, and completing purchases — across multiple markets with different currencies and languages. Our architectural decisions focused on how product data should be organised and accessed so the right information appeared at the right price, every time, even under heavy traffic during peak shopping periods.
One catalogue, two channels
Sun & Sand Sports' product data already lived in their existing ecommerce platform. The strategic question was how to connect mobile and web without duplicating content or creating drift between channels. We made the executive call to design a single source of truth — one data architecture that both the website and app could draw from, structured to perform at scale.
Pricing and translations added further complexity because product information was organised differently across markets. We shaped the data model around how Sun & Sand Sports actually sells — so the shopping experience felt instant, and the architecture could absorb that complexity without passing it on to customers.

Merchandising tools that keep the business moving
After the app launch, Sun & Sand Sports asked Aduro to extend the platform with internal tools for their merchandising team — including controls for product display order, featured products, and sale status.
Here the architecture mattered as much as the interface. We designed how changes would be drafted, revised and published — and when updates would reach the website and the app — so merchandisers could move quickly without risking inconsistent customer experiences. Those were executive decisions about data flow and release timing, not just feature requirements.
The result was a retail platform that could launch quickly, handle real transaction volume, and give the merchandising team direct control over how products appear to customers — online and on mobile.
Key Results
Sun & Sand Sports needed a mobile shopping experience that matched the scale of their brand — without rebuilding what already worked on the web.
We led the data and software architecture, making the executive decisions on structure, integration and release workflows before development began — then delivered in 12 weeks and extended into merchandising tools as the business grew.
